Goodness, what a naughty neglectful blogger I have been.
Things really are moving a long from strength to strength, although I have less and less time to do the mundane things like sleep, feed the family and pay the electric bill!
I have been flat out all year with commissions this year - which is more that I could have dreamt of, unfortunately, the reality of the business side of things is starting to weigh heavily on my mind now. I simply am not charging enough to make this venture profitable. It's so difficult to get pricing right though - how do you strike the right balance? I have quoted low for jobs because I have really wanted them, and had comments such as "That's a ridiculous price" right through to over quoting due to lack of time or bad photo's and have the response: "No problem, can I pay you now?"
There are numerous blogs and pages of advice out there for any new artist trying to make a living from their work but honestly, everyone seems to have a different opinion! So for now I am going with a gentle price hike until I stop getting work - I am guessing this will tell me that I've pushed it too far.
You may have noticed that there is some new work in my gallery, well this is because I have an exhibition space at a local annual Art exhibition. My first serious attempt at being an 'exhibiting artist'.
I have six pieces all very differently priced and as far as I can see I am the only pastel artist there! So if you live in the Aylesbury area and you fancy having a nosy at some fabulous art (and there really is some beautiful work on display) then come down to Aylesbury Grammar School between 10.30am and 4pm Saturday the 22nd of November and I might see you there!
